Bus Service in Dubai

15 April 2009 8 Comments

A typical bus stop at Dubai

Fully air-conditioned, spic and span, spotlessly clean, sparkling insides…  Don’t you think it’s too good to be real ? But well, this is an evening in Dubai, supposed to be peak hour in any city of the world. And no, this was not a Friday, their usual holiday.

The bus fare is 2 Dirhams (their currency) for any distance you want to travel. All the buses and the bus stops are air conditioned. There is a route map inside the bus and at the bus stop as well.

One has to get in from the front door of a bus. Why ?

There is no conductor in the bus, the driver issues the tickets. Some seats are reserved for ladies but there is no restriction for them sitting elsewhere too.

Are there buses in DXB? If yes, are there people using them? :)

That is really futuristic! I’d love to wait for the bus in there.. Better than in Canada where I get cold!

For two dirhams and considering the heat in Dubai, I’d have thought that a service like that would be very popular.

    Ram,
Hmm… Now I know what you want. You want me to post some more photos from inside the bus where you can see people sitting. :D
    Shall happen.

They are a bit shaky, taken from inside moving bus but will post some. :)

    Zhu,
You are right. It looks so futuristic. You’ll have to wait anyway, the frequency is quite poor. :P

    Mark,
Well, Dubai is quite rich. The buses are not so popular, I think the main reason is the frequency. One has to wait around 30-45 minutes even to see a bus !

The guy behind those bus shelters (Anup Jalan) is into Outdoor Advtg etc for a while and he got an award for this work.

I would pass on the link to him, he should be happy to read that people are liking it. :)
