Pattaya Fried Rice or Nasi Goreng Pattaya in Malay, is made out of fried rice placed inside an omelet that is shaped like a pouch, topped with spicy sauce and accompanied with some salad pieces. Break open the omelet pouch and you will have the fried rice. Rice can also contain chicken shreds or prawns as per your choice.
This is a very common dish in Malaysia, and is usually available in Malay stalls and restaurants.

That was one of the dishes we tried. And I was so hungry that I couldn’t resist biting into it before it got captured in camera. And it was deliciously yummy. Ummmm….

Tell me who all are drooling now. :P

    Ha ha… so am I!
I think Nasi Goreng is more popular in Indonesia than Malaysia.
My friend who visited Indonesia told me that that’s basically what he had everyday in Indonesia… Ha ha…

    Jessiev,
    Yes indeed, it’s so tasty.

    Tammie,
Hee hee… try & let me know.

    London caller,
Well, I went to Malaysia and found every restaurant was selling this and it’s very popular too. A complete meal in itself.

And instead of Indonesia, it should have been popular in Thailand ! :P

    Ha Ha !

This looks great. Alas I had known about it before my trip to Malaysia! We had lot of problems with food there. Ultimately eating in Indian restaurants most of the time. Next time I’m going to try this.

so yummy! will give a try..

    Namita,
It’s a complete meal and quite filling too.

Ha Ha… we avoided Indian food as long as we could and tried Thai, Malay and Chinese cuisines to the hilt. :D

    Two reasons for it.
    1) Indian food is best in India.
    2) We wanted to try those cuisines in their original taste unlike the Indian version what we get here.

I think you had your kids with you. That makes a lot of difference.

    Rajesh,
    Welcome on this blog !

    Sure. Should be tried out.

  • Namita said:

Nisha I guess you got it. We were traveling with kids and giving them at least one wholesome/familiar meal a day was important. My daughter is young and thus choosy about meals.
When we traveled alone we never felt the need to eat Indian food, in fact like you said we used to avoid it.

  • Celine said:

Yummy! I’ve tasted some good food in Pattaya a few years back and your post brought back those memories.

  • Nisha (author) said:

    Namita,
Yes, that’s true. We can’t experiment with when we have kids around.

    Celine,
For me it’s new and I am going to relish it again in a few months. :D

I think in all of my food pictures a bite is almost invariably missing. One of these days I’ll have an action shot of me inhaling a meal.

  • Nisha (author) said:

    Anil,
In my case mostly I am so hungry that the food itself gets missing before I realize I could have taken a shot. :D lolll

So, very few photos of food that survive to show up here.

Sure, I am waiting to see your picture.

There is no dearth of things that one can do with Egg. Such a versatile product. But this is the first time I am hearing of an egg pouch bearing rice. Must be so much fun and expectation as to what is inside :)

  • Nisha (author) said:

It was first time for me too. :D

I’ll post some more pictures of eggs used in different ways.
