Changu Lake, Sikkim
2000 feet below Nathu la Pass (India-China border), and on way to it, there is a splendid blue-green water lake called Changu Lake or Tsomgo Lake. In Bhutia language it is literally known as “source of the lake”.

Beautiful view of Changu lake. It was very cloudy that day.
Just about 40 kms. away from Gangtok, this serene lake is situated at an altitude of 12,000 ft on the Gangtok Nathu La highway.

Evening time. Closer look.
The colourful prayer flags add to aesthetic beauty of the Changu lake surrounded by Alpine vegetation. The lake is about 1 km. long and not very deep. It is considered sacred by the local people and they worship at the lake. The colorful prayer flags on its banks indicate its religious importance.

Another view of Changu lake. Can you see those colorful flags?
Getting there: Best way is to hire a jeep with driver unless you plan for biking. Steep ramp drive & curvy roads would also vouch for the same. The driver would also stop at intervals acclimatize to the altitude.
Other info: Since it falls in the restricted area, Indians require an inner line permit to visit this place. And foreign nationals are not permitted to visit this lake without special permission.
