Angkor What ?
Picture of the moment: Angkor What ?
Picture of the moment is a weekly series exhibiting pictures, through which I show you a bit of my world.
You can see more Pictures of the moment here.
‘Angkor What?’ started it all.
‘Angkor What’ is apparently the oldest pub in Siem Reap and probably the reason for the name ‘Pub Street’.

Angkor What, the oldest pub in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The signature covered walls in luminescent paint and black lights highlight its long run in Siem Reap. It was opened in 1998 and still one of the very popular bars at the heart of the Pub Street action.
Managed to resist the urge to drink irresponsibly even though the sign above the door told us to!
A great place to meet fellow travelers from across the globe.
And that is the table which I had to share with two people, one of whom was an Australian backpacker. We spoke and chatted, exchanged a few notes and experiences about travelling to other countries… the common and uncommon ones. He was a bit sad because next day he was leaving Cambodia.
Location:- Pub Street, Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Simon,
Yes it is !
Photo doesn’t do justice to its liveliness.
Samaresh,
Thank you. It is very colorful… full of notes & signatures of the people coming there.
I’ll post some more pictures later.

The vibrancy of the wall is very mood enhancing…befitting a pub.

@Amit,
Absolutely!

Cannot agree more with Amit. I always wanted to paint something like this on one of the walls at my home. Suddenly, that childhood feeling and thought came back seeing this picture. Guess, my mountain love may spare me some days so that I can travel to other wonderful and lively places on this earth

Dheeraj,
And our parents always kept an eye not to disfigure it.
I think painting a wall in one’s house is a dream with many of us.
And probably that’s why we are appreciating the colors more than anything else.

Is it Angkor wat? The largest hindu temple complex in the world, situated at Angkor or Angkor what is something different?

I’ve been there. The wall is good, but the place is quite a mess. There is a lot of pens hanging around for people to write on the walls (as can be seen in your photo). It’s more of a stand up bar then a pub now too. I wouldn’t go back there as there are a number of interesting options down the same street, but Ankor What obviously has the best name and is usually the place to go first.

I do not know what impact the writings will have after some glasses of the hard stuff goes down the throat!
