Mannequins in headscarf

Picture of the moment: Mannequins in headscarf
Picture of the moment is a weekly series exhibiting pictures, through which I show you a bit of my world.

On my first trip to the city, I stumbled on these mannequins while walking around in a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. I stepped back and stared at them. The look of these mannequins was a surreal resemblance to human beings, perhaps because they were dressed with headscarf. Later I found, there are many shops with dressed up mannequins with the headscarf.

Headscarf, also known as Hijab or tudung, is an integral part of dressing for Muslim women in Malaysia and majority of the Muslim ladies wear headscarf as an act of obedience to Allah. It refers to both the head-covering traditionally worn by Muslim women and modest Islamic styles of dress in general. I am neither an expert nor a right person to opine on these country specific issues but I am told that there is no compulsion for women to wear them except when visiting a mosque where the tudung must be worn; and this requirement also includes non-Muslims.
The headscarf or tudung, simply means “cover”. If you see carefully, you’ll observe that the it shows the face but covers the hair, ears and neck.
The garment has different legal and cultural statuses in various countries.

One can find these headscarves displayed in similar manner in many malls and bigger bus stands.
There are variety of them for every budget, size and color and there are some cool online stores as well.

Of course, I had asked the permission of shop-owner to click a few photos. He readily agreed. :D

Hi Nisha! It has been a long absence, but things have been a bit hard: father 95, mother almost 91 doing radiotherapy, wife broke right elbow and I’m consuming some much needed holidays to take care of all this…

    Lovely shots!

As far as Blogtrotter Two is concerned, it seems nobody is interested in St. Kitts, so maybe I should try something else. Anyhow, enjoy and have a great week or better a vacation, if still available!!!
