Temple of Wisdom or Wat Hat Yai Nai in Hat Yai.
This temple is famous for a gigantic statue of reclining Buddha measuring 35 meters long, 15 meters tall, 10 meters wide, named Phra Phuttha Hattha Mongkhon. It is said to be the third largest reclining Buddha in the world.
One can also enter the statue’s torso to view the lungs and heart.
The temple was about to close, I couldn’t do that.

You can judge the enormity of statue by looking at the person sitting and praying near steps.

The temple was about to close, I couldn’t do that.

You can judge the enormity of statue by looking at the person sitting and praying near steps.

Temple of Wisdom a.k.a. Wat Hat Yai Nai

The temple is located on Phetkasem Road, near Khlong U Taphao Bridge, around 2.2 Km from station. I took a tuk-tuk to visit the place. To & fro and waiting time…. total 80 THB after bargaining.

The feet

Another view.

Place for homage at the back of temple.

Inside the image’s gigantic base or at the back of the temple there is a curious little museum and a souvenir shop. It is also a place to pay homage to your Gods and loved ones by donating and buying a permanent place in the form of photo frames.

I tried to ask details but lack of communication did not allow free flow of conversation. It is a very large hall consisting of a few God idols and all I could understand was they had some gold thin paper like sheets on their foreheads. The priest there asked me to rub it and apply to my forehead. He told it is for purity.
I will upload more photos of this temple later.

Again some scattered thoughts and moments.

• I have lost track of days. I don’t know which day of the week is today unless I purposely try to find out.
• I have lost inches. All my pants are loose by at least 1.5″.
• I am not writing any stories here anymore. They are personal and boring. Only I can relate, feel and live to them. So, here I’ll talk about my general experiences and learnings.

Replica in front of the actual one.

• My experience as a lone woman traveler… Thailand is more safer than Malaysia. And I will go to that country at every possible opportunity.
• Back in India, if you want to relate/perceive then Malaysia is Delhi while Thailand is Mumbai.
• Did you like my photos on Facebook? Both on my page and on personal account? I know you are waiting for next batches. Hang on. It’ll take some time. I need to sit and organize them properly.
• Till now Alor Setar is the scariest place I came across. Won’t go there again unless required and am accompanied by someone.
• Tattoos start from 2000 THB till 50K THB.
• I did not like Phuket. Not a bit.
• Overheard somewhere…. Dosa zara ‘karaara’ lana. What? Ab yaar karaara ki English kya hoti hai?
• Americans have spoilt the fun of backpacking. They pay heavily, tip unnecessarily and locals now expect it from everybody. For some countries, the food, clothes etc might be dirt cheap but there are travelers coming from not so rich countries as well.
• I need to work on my blog. Not the posts but otherwise.
• I get many comments on one of my posts when wrote about Buddhist temple in Malaysia but they are all religion based and in a way accusing each other. I have not approved many of them.
• I have whooping 78 drafts now. Mostly just the titles.

If you like this blog, why don’t you recommend it to your friends ?

You are excused to skip this post. These are my rants which I want to laugh at when I read them after 10-12 years from now.

• I am not getting enough time or internet access to write longer posts. So what I am doing is writing only the titles and putting them in draft. That will remind me later of the topic. I have 52 drafts at this moment.
• There are more mosquitoes in Malaysia than in Thailand. Remember ‘mujhe is jungle se bacahao’ ?
• Can you believe my own comment went into spam and I had to restore/approve it? All b’coz it contained a link.
• Made a very good friend yesterday.
• I am loving Thai food but my stomach is not agreeing with me.
• I am totally sun tanned. I wonder how my husband and kid will recognize me.
• Saw an eight feet jelly fish underwater while snorkeling.
• The host server where my site and related stuff rest, has goofed up during maintenance and now doesn’t reply to my queries. The look & feel of this site went back to what it was in January. Not sure what more is messed up. I am not correcting it till I get at least an acknowledgment from them.
• From the time I started this trip, I have 4 requests lined up now to take them along or plan with them on my next trip. And I neither know nor seen any of them in my real life !
• I am damn tired now. I think I need a break. Maybe a nice thigh massage Thai massage will do wonders. (that was a spelling mistake, okay ?)
• The drafts have increased to 57 now.
