Best Wishes to all on the arrival of the New Year 2012.
Having met a few of my old school friends from Delhi after several years in the year gone by (2011), I found myself reminiscing how we used to celebrate the Christmas vacation in Delhi, especially the arrival of the new year.
The celebrations always involved intricate planning and things to do in Delhi.
The reason was, being from conservative families, we did not want to be found out having indulged in intoxication back at home.
You can imagine what (more…)

This is the fourth post in this batch of Guest-post series on this site. The contributions are from people like you and me but not necessarily from the blogging world. We see, observe and experience many mundane things in our daily life. The flavours are different but the interest is common in these posts … and that is Travel.

Recently I got chance to visit NEPAL. I always wanted to visit Nepal for travel especially after viewing pictures of Nepal’s mighty Himalayas. This time I was lucky enough to visit tourist city of Pokhara which is popular destination in Nepal for trekking in Annapurna Conservation area. Apart from traveling and photography, I love writing postcards and sending to my friends when I visit some new travel destination. Collecting postcards and stamps is also one of my fav hobby.

Picture of the moment: Cottage in Koh Lanta
Picture of the moment is a weekly series exhibiting pictures, through which I show you a bit of my world.
This was my cottage in an island called Koh Lanta where I spent three days and nights. Koh Lanta is a beautiful island in western Thailand. I can not forget this place for many reasons; one of them was seeing a night brawl, broken glasses, blood sheds and police arrests just outside my door in my balcony. ![]()
I was scared like hell and was cottage arrested that night. If I recollect, I was not even breathing !
And remember I was on a solo backpacking trip.
Travel surely gives me a testing time.

The cottage consisted of a room, an attached bath and of course a balcony with a single plastic chair in it.
Location: Koh Lanta island.

Picture of the moment: Skiing in a shopping mall !
Picture of the moment is a weekly series exhibiting pictures, through which I show you a bit of my world.
Come December end and most of us relate it to cold weather, white snow and Santa Claus. But what if you live in a hot country of middle east where you have sand and sand everywhere, forget about cold or snow?
Worry not.
Dubai can do anything for its people. It has created a cold snowy atmosphere inside one of its shopping malls. The mall has developed it so realistically that you’ll forget going to a western country!

My tryst with Chennai (formerly Madras) includes Sarvana stores, Kumaran silks, Nallis, Pothys and GRT….. Dhal powders, (different types of podis such as paruppu podis etc), maanga inji pickle. The list goes on…
Forget about anything else, my visits to Chennai are combination of smaller excursions to acquire these much sought after possessions.
As much as I dislike Chennai for its anti Hindi propaganda, irritating auto rickshaws, the hot & humid weather and the city’s laid back attitude, my sole aim to enjoy this city is by shopping there. A few short visits that I’ve made to Chennai, as it appears to me, is a big shopping hub for north Indian people.

Kumaran silks, Lalitha jewelery & Sarvana stores. What else do you want?
Was I always so keen to go there? (more…)
