In India flying from one metro city to another is a breeze but what if you have to go to a smaller place? Are there enough connections? Are there enough express trains or buses to get you to your destination fast? Even if there are some, how fast they are? In today’s high-speed world we can not afford to waste time in travelling.
As you all know, a few days back I went to Kanatal on an invitation. The air route was Mumbai-Delhi-Dehradun and back.
While Mumbai-Delhi sector has large number of flights everyday by several domestic airlines, I wondered how Delhi-Dehradun sector would be. Being a small town in Uttarakhand, Dehradun does not attract a large number of passengers everyday, most of whom probably drive down the distance. Not many airlines would venture in a low profit sector.
But to my surprise our flight by Spicejet was full! A small aircraft catering to small number of passengers is all what they needed. The aircraft as well as the service was good and we took only 55 minutes to cover the distance. Had it not been for a flight, we would have spent good 7 hours from Delhi driving down to our place! And let me remind you, I was at the Mumbai check in counter at 4:30 AM. It would have been a disaster to spend 7 more hours on the road after I reached Delhi.
So, there are a few airlines who are targeting small non-metro cities. It is a win-win situation for both parties. Another domestic airline which is quite popular with small towns is Indigo. I heard it is equally good. I will give you a comparison of the two once I fly with it. 🙂
