Meeting a Twitter follower in a remote village

Meeting a Twitter Follower in a remote village!
How does that sound?

They say the world is small and how true it is!

It so happened that we were visiting Lodhruva Jain temple on a temple trail around Jaisalmer, Rajasthan on a very hot lazy noon. As we walked out of our cars, the temple was on my left hand side and on right side were some people sitting casually on two stone benches under the shade of a tree.

Siddhartha was the first one to start clicking pictures and showing them on his camera. As I approached them I heard a conversation between Siddhartha and a young man. When I looked at the young man, I was dumbstruck ! I immediately recognized him.

Sumer Singh Rathore?” I almost jumped with excitement !
Nisha Jha?” he was equally excited.

Amidst “Oh my God” “Oh my God”, the joy and happiness on our faces was evident.

Sumer Singh is a follower on Twitter and Facebook since a long time and, on this trip, had been actively following my tweets about Jaisalmer! To meet a like-minded person from virtual world in a remote village was really overwhelming. A very pleasant surprise. 😀

Others in the group were also amused by this union. And then started our photo session with the young travel enthusiast. Everybody wanted to have a picture with him. Multiple cameras, multiple people and multiple poses.

After the shoot, when others made their way to the temple, I chatted with Sumer Singh for some more time. We connected on Facebook as well and he’s a very lovable friend. 🙂

A very humble gentleman, travel enthusiast, he lives in this remote village of Jaisalmer. Using his 2G internet connection on Vodafone, he follows most of India’s travel bloggers and can easily recognize them by face. He writes a blog in Hindi, called The Song of Sumera. He has written about our meeting here. Do read and comment to encourage him. We need more people like him. He also writes in a local Hindi newspaper about his village and its goings-on.

He mentioned he is trying to become proficient in English so that he can communicate with the world better. He is very good at social media networking and I really hope that he does something big using this platform.

I have invited him to Mumbai and I wish him all the success in life. You can also read Siddhartha’s account of meeting him.

If you want to travel places with me, I suggest you to join me on my Facebook travel page.
