Thainess, my dear Highness

2015 will be the year of Thainess … Oh that rhymed!

Tomorrow (14th Jan 2015), an all-out global Thailand tourism marketing exercise is going to commence in Bangkok. The 5 day blitzkrieg of tourism events will begin with a grand procession. With this Thailand will bring the glory of Thai traditions and cultures from all regions of the country to Bangkok within one evening showcasing the pride of the nation. Local and foreign tourists will have the opportunity to experience the kingdom’s traditional beliefs and age-old traditions which make Thai culture, the Thai way of life and the Thai experience very unique within a short yet memorable period of time.

I heard this “2015 Discover Thainess” parade on 3.5-kilometre stretch will comprise of six spectacular processions! The first procession of the regal Suphannahong replica will be an exquisite float displaying beautiful Thai fine arts in the story of the Ramakien, or the Thai version of the Ramayana.
The grand festivities of Thailand, from all five regions including elaborately-crafted floats, Songkran or Thai New Year, the tradition of the Wax Castle Procession, the Colours of Fruits and Fantasy, on, and the Chak Phra, or the hauling of the Buddha image will follow suit.
They will also showcase Thai way of life by way of Thai cuisine, the legacy of Thai silk and Thai boxing or Muay Thai. I am told, there will be many other processions like “Siam Sanuk” and “Smiles of Siam”, which displays the Warmth, friendliness and readiness of the Thai people to welcome tourists.

During this five-day festival, local and international visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in Thainess or the Thai way of life through observation and participation in various activities available at the five uniquely-designed “Thailand tourism villages” that will showcase the variations in the Thainess across five regions of Thailand. Each is designed to evoke the distinct atmospheres of the region it represents.
The grand opening celebration of the “2015 Discover Thainess” campaign is scheduled to take place from 14 to 18 January, 2015, in Bangkok.

Why am I telling all this?

Because I am flying tonight to Thailand on invitation by Tourism Authority of Thailand to attend this grand opening ceremony. Can’t wait to see the event live! 😀
