Soap for Hope – The Story of Recycled Soaps

For the last couple of decades or so, we are all used to seeing cards in hotels informing us of ecological conservation and protecting the environment programme and do we want to reuse bed linens and towels. This has been a huge success in saving resources in various forms and of course conserving clean water. But what about bath products? Is there a thing called recycled soaps?

Olive Ridley Sea Turtles in Velas Maharashtra

We were on our way to an unknown village to see some new-borns take their first baby steps and then swim into the sea! We are, of course, talking about the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles in Velas Maharashtra. This is a ritual that happens during the months of February, March and April in this otherwise sleepy village called Velas in Ratnagiri District, in the south of Maharashtra.

Lost and Found in Valparai

We meet many people on the road, both locals and travelers alike who help us in time of need or distress without expecting a return. Last week of every month I bring you stories from travelers who have experienced kindness on the road and like to share and spread it for the love of travel.

This month’s story has come from India’s Divyakshi Gupta who takes us to Valparai. Getting lost in a forest is something I don’t want to even think of. Let us see what she has to say about it.
Over to Divyakshi Gupta.

It was nearing dusk and we were on our way to explore the forests of Valparai. This was my chance to see the lion tailed macaque and I was so excited.
Birds chirped endlessly as we rode on the curves. The forest canopy was thick and the driver seemed to know where we were going. Immersed in the beauty of the South western ghats, I looked out of the window, not wanting to miss even a second of this therapy.

Royal Delights at Narendra Bhawan

We had entered Bikaner a few minutes earlier and after negotiating a few intricate twists and turns, reached Narendra Bhawan, a palace turned into a hotel. The driver, dressed in ethnic outfit was quite a pro and took about 5 hours from Jaipur to Bikaner including a lunch and a tea break.

A five star inn in Jaipur City Centre

It was the boxing-day and we could see that Christmas mood was still there at the Holiday Inn Jaipur. There was a 10 foot Christmas tree at the main door itself announcing proudly that it was still Christmas season. On entering we found an atrium as high as the building itself, all of seven storeys and from the top was a bunch of green string-lights arranged in a conical form giving a feeling of a 100-foot Christmas tree and below were several reindeer pulling their cart containing one of the biggest gingerbread house we had seen.
