The first thing you hear about the little vibrant, beautiful white town Mijas (pronounced as Mikhas) is about Donkey Taxis. You can see them nicely decorated and carrying tourists through the alleys, streets and small squares of Mijas.

For centuries they lived in caves, roamed and ruled the complicated sierras, ravines and hidden valleys of the Serrania de Ronda and Sierra Morena, which sheltered them. Slowly they became so powerful in Andalucia that the government in Madrid in 1844 had to order the creation of the Guardia Civil (the local police at the villages) to put an end to their robbing ways. After that the robbery was almost curbed but isolated pockets of bandits were still robbing the wealthy travellers on their way to Ronda in as late as 1930s.

The World Cup 2014 has started today. Football fever is on and what better occasion than it to peep inside a real Football stadium? To know the enormity and other details related to the game?
So today I take you inside Real Madrid Stadium.
You can’t miss the stadium when you get off the metro, or the bus. It is named after Santiago Bernabéu, the man who had the vision to create the stadium.
It is hard to envisage the enormous size of the Real Madrid stadium before visiting it, and I am sure even not so die-hard fans will appreciate the panoramic views once inside. The best way to see the stadium is to take a Real Madrid tour, which takes you behind the scenes.

The wooden houses on both sides of the street looked quite old. They were made in a particular style, typical of Zakopane region. The road was cleared of snow but the parked cars and pathways were still covered with tons of it. So were the fences along the road and the cute lampposts with sloping roofs. A dreamy surrounding, I must say. It looked like as if I was walking along a wooden trail. 🙂

Today is World Heritage Day. There are 30 World Heritage sites in India, and 981 in the whole world. Can anybody visit them in one life? Yes, I know of a person who visits only Heritage sites and he’s been doing it for last 6 years! Slowly, one by one.
While I am not fortunate enough to be like him, I am contended with my own pace. When I look at the pictures of the sites I’ve visited, I feel quite happy.

We had just reached our hotel in Krakow, the second largest city of Poland. Sun had just set and it was cold. I was shivering and it was not just because of the sub-zero temperature. On way to our hotel our bus passed through an area called village Kazimierz. From the distance I could see several chairs, and I was reminded of the broken chair memorial in Geneva, outside the main gate of UNO. I made a mental note that this may be to depict something similar.
When the story unfolded, it was absolutely terrifying and I had goose pimples right till next morning.

Another year has passed and it’s time to look back and take stock of my journeys, not only in terms of travel but the journeys which opened a new horizon in front of me and helped me see the world with diverse perceptions.
As I always say, I count my memories, not the places and I am happy that my travel memories are far more and better than the destinations.

Poland in winters!
The sheer thought of it makes you shiver in cold. Isn’t it?
The day I landed in Warsaw was quite warm according to the locals. The maximum temperature that day was 5 degrees Celsius whereas generally it is between -10 to -15 degrees!
No doubt it was breezy and cold when I stepped out of the airport, but I could manage. The joy of stepping in a new country is always overwhelming. In the afternoon the Sun had also come out to make me smile.
In reality, more than the weather it was the warmth and hospitality of its people which won over that cold.
