Gifts from returning travelers

Note: This article is intended for an audience who are above 25 years of age.

We have been travelling for several years now. Probably I should write decades. 🙂 While it is a great fun and enjoyable to see new places, meet new people, imbibe new culture, sometimes new drinks too, 😉 there is another thing I relish. That is souvenir shopping! Shopping for souvenirs, for self and for friends back home.

I always keep some time (when possible) for this shopping.

Ourselfie, our time together!

Ourselfie, our time together!

I think, for ages, painting selfies, or self-portraits as it was called then, have been a pastime for many an artist. The reason, then, probably was self-glorification or perhaps to show their prowess with the brush and also to depict themselves in a particular way. Many portrayed themselves in a group or mythical scenes too. They wanted to make a statement.

A little bit of bragging!

A little bit of bragging!

It is not always that I like to boast. 😀

Very rarely.

But a little bit of it gives you positive energy, they say. There are times when you want to share good news with your so many unseen fellow readers and friends.

Its happy news time again. I have been interviewed by Times World Travel Magazine by Bennett & Coleman! It is about ‘Independent Women Travelers’.

Meet my Partner in Crime

Some of you have already met him.
Vasu.
Meet my partner in crime, partner in real life and partner in many things that you don’t know. Down to earth and a very simple person at heart, he has been my backbone & a strong support, and this support also includes financing many of my solo trips. 😀

Yahoo made a Video on Me !

Yahoo!!
Yahoo featured me as a Fab & Fearless girl on its exclusive video.

It is a great honour that out of billions of Indians YAHOO chose me to showcase as a “Fab & Fearless girl“.

One fine day I was approached by them. They said they wanted to shoot me. Not with a gun, but the video kind. 😀
After initial reluctance, I agreed.

Here is the link of the video for you. Thus yours truly is the only Travel blogger from India to have this honor !

How fair are promotional contests?

In the last few months I have seen several travel related promotional contests happening; for many international destinations by different tourism boards and airlines.
The result for one of them was announced on January 10th, 2014. They were to announce two lucky winners and they did so. I did not participate so came to know of it only yesterday night. Thanks to my fellow readers who participated.

Who would not want to be a winner?

I am told, there were more than 48,000 people who participated and played the game as per the rules. Call it lack of transparency … If you read T&C on their Facebook page where the contest was being held, it is NOT clear how the winners will be chosen.
But if you go through the queries in comments section and the organizers’ response to these comments, the participants were given the impression by the organizers that more they play & comment, the more they have chances for a win. So some played more than 250 times giving all correct answers to increase their chances.

After the results are announced, there is a furore amongst the participants..

Featured in DNA Newspaper

It was a pleasant surprise when one of my friends informed me that I have been featured in today’s (Oct 24, 2013) DNA Newspaper’s Escape supplement, Mumbai edition.

The article is titled ‘Blog It’ and talks about travel bloggers who share their experiences of exploring India and the world. There are five other travel bloggers featured in the article along with me. All of us try to reminisce about our journeys and share our passion for travel and blogging and ponder over ‘why we travel?’.

When my plane was about to collide!

Have you ever travelled when you were very tired and sleepy and all you wanted a comfortable bed to crash?
I have.
I wanted to sleep while waiting in immigration queue. I wanted to sleep while waiting to board. There are many instances when I desperately wanted to doze off.

Talking of sleep or lack of it, reminds me of a small anecdote which I want to share with you all.

I was flying to Thailand. The flight was in the evening and as usual I had my window seat. 🙂

Immediately after our airplane settled above the clouds, I could see the Sun setting. To my disappointment my window pane was very dirty from outside so I was unable to take any photo. But I did not want to let go of having a window seat. I turned back and clicked a few shots through the window behind.

Man! That was some work and then I dozed off !
