OPPO F1s the New Selfie Expert

Only a few months back OPPO launched its first selfie camera OPPOF1 and OPPOF1 PLUS. In this age of cut throat competition time to market and having a niche is most important and so we see a new and improved version of OPPO F1s, the selfie camera, launched on 3-Aug-2016.

I had been quite keenly waiting for this launch and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. When I did get it in my hands, I found it a snug fit and had a premium looks.

So what has changed? OPPO has positioned itself as a selfie camera. So we find most of the changes aimed towards improving customer experience in this area.

It has a faster Octa Core processor and more inbuilt memory and a 3000+ mah battery to go with and runs the upgraded ColorOS 3.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The 3GB ram can easily cope up with multiple applications and switching between applications is quite fast without any perceptible lag. I found that there was no lag even while playing CPU intensive games. It can carry two 4G nano sim cards as well as an expansion micro SD card, expandable to 128GB, in the same tray. The finger print technology is quite innovative and fast. You can launch 5 different applications with different fingers!

The most important change is that OPPO F1s has a 16MP front camera compared to the 8MP of OPPOF1. So clearly OPPO means Selfie business in a country obsessed with selfies, especially when the main camera is just 13MP. The 5.5-inch display is bright and clear and offers a better of the scene and vivid colours. The Beautify4.0 app is better with more functions and filters. For example, it tries to remove all your tan and smoothens wrinkles of your face, if any. 😉

The inbuilt time lapse, Panorama maker and slides maker are quite useful tools when it comes to the camera. The other top features have been carried forward, like audio notes, ability to shoot raw, HDR etc.

The wide colour range and rich colours set it apart from its competitors. The f/2.0 aperture can do wonders in low light conditions. It has an added facility to take selfie panorama. Now you don’t have to worry about the number of people who can be accommodated in a selfie.

According to me, the one improvement I would like to see is upgrading to Android 6, considering the world has already moved on to Android 6.0. However, the Colour OS gives the feel of an iPhone. Like before the price is a bit on the higher side compared to other competing brands and models. But then, like I said the niche is Selfies.

When it comes to looks, hey from afar doesn’t it look like an iPhone? I am sure it performs equally well or maybe better when it comes to taking selfies at INR 17,990.

  1. Photos are great and the phone also looks sleek. I too agree with Shreya that the price maybe a tad too high for a camera of this type in this segment especially since it is still running android 5.

I agree that they may have niche in selfie camera , like the 16MP front camera.

  2. Well, I liked the front camera but what’s the logic behind keeping from camera’s MP’s more than rear? It is kinda weird 🙂
